Pop Hits, Standing Ovations & a Night to Remember: From a spontaneous extra night in Stuttgart to a spectacular musical premiere and an aftershow party that’s unforgettable.

Some nights turn out to be so much more than you ever expected. For me, October 8, 2026, was one of those nights.
I was in Stuttgart on a business trip, when I started looking for ways to spend my evenings in the city. That’s when I discovered that & Julia was about to open at the Stage Palladium Theater. The previews were already running, and the official premiere happened to fall on Thursday evening, just as my business trip was coming to an end.
The musical had previously played in Hamburg, but somehow, I’d never managed to see it there… Something I now regret even more!
So I thought, why not? The timing couldn’t have been better. I decided to extend my stay in Stuttgart by one night to experience the opening night for myself. Looking back, I’m so glad I did.
The Magic of Opening Night

Opening Night is always something special! And the excitement began before I even stepped inside the theatre: A bright pink carpet had been rolled out in front of the venue, replacing the traditional red carpet and immediately setting the tone for the evening.
Inside, the foyer was full of excitement! The theatre was packed with elegantly dressed guests, camera flashes were going off, and you could practically feel the anticipation in the air. Drinks and finger food were being served, conversations filled the room, and everywhere I looked, people seemed genuinely excited about seeing the show.
There was something about that atmosphere: the glamour, the positive energy, the feeling of being part of something special. It was that unmistakable opening-night magic, and I could feel it from the very first moment.
And the show hadn’t even started yet.
Once in the theatre, the experience slowly began to unfold. One by one, performers appeared on stage, already in character, interacting with the audience before the actual performance began. It was a clever way of drawing everyone into the world of & Julia.
Then came the opening number and the energy in the room immediately took off! People around me were already swaying in their seats to the rhythm, some quietly singing or humming along. You could feel how quickly the music connected with the audience and I knew: This was going to be a fun night!
A Musical Full of Energy, Heart and Empowerment
For me, what makes & Julia so special is its combination of familiar pop hits with a fresh, funny and surprisingly meaningful story.
The musical takes Shakespeare’s famous Romeo and Juliet and asks a simple question:
What if Juliet’s story didn’t have to end the way Shakespeare wrote it?
What follows is a modern, uplifting celebration of independence, identity, love and the freedom to choose your own path.
One of the things I enjoyed most was how naturally the well-known songs were woven into the story. Songs like “I Want It That Way” didn’t simply feel like familiar pop hits added to a musical – they became part of the storytelling, often in clever and unexpected ways.
And the energy in the room was fantastic. I particularly loved how the musical balanced its comedy with more serious and emotional moments.
Beneath the colorful costumes, catchy songs and hilarious dialogue, & Julia explores themes of self-determination, acceptance, individuality and challenging traditional expectations. Especially in today’s world, these messages feel more relevant than ever.
The dramatic build-up towards the interval, including a powerful rendition of “It’s My Life”, left me completely drawn into the story and eager to find out what would happen next.
During the interval, guests were welcomed back into the foyer with more drinks and finger food.
The second act delivered even more memorable moments.
“Since U Been Gone” was an absolute powerhouse of a number, combining strong vocals, exciting choreography and an audience that once again couldn’t resist clapping along.

I also loved the visual atmosphere during “One More Try”. A floating moon against a backdrop of stars and fireworks, delicate bubbles filled with mist and small Parisian stage props created a beautiful, almost dreamlike setting. It was one of those moments where music, lighting and stage design came together perfectly.
But my personal musical highlight was Sabrina Weckerlin’s performance of “That’s the Way It Is”.
Her voice was simply breathtaking.
The performance built towards a powerful climax that was met with thunderous applause before the song had even finished. And when the final note arrived, the applause grew even louder, with some audience members giving her a well deserved standing ovation!
As a musician myself, I particularly appreciate moments when a performance creates such an immediate connection with its audience. And this was definitely one of them.
The stage design, reminiscent of an old Parisian artist’s attic, made the moment even more memorable.

And as if that weren’t enough, the show soon turned into a full-blown celebration.
When the “Bois Band” launched into “Everybody”, the audience was on its feet, dancing, singing and clapping along.
Sebeya’s powerful rendition of “Stronger” captured Juliet’s journey towards independence beautifully, while songs such as “F****** Perfect” and “Roar” delivered both emotional depth and pure excitement.

By the time confetti filled the auditorium, the entire theatre was celebrating.
The emotional reprise of “I Want It That Way” brought the story full circle in a touching way, before “CAN’T STOP THE FEELING!” had everyone back on their feet from the very first beat.
Standing ovations, cheers and thunderous applause followed. For the premiere, the cast and creative team were also introduced individually on stage, giving everyone an opportunity to celebrate the people behind the production.
It was a truly spectacular finale and a celebration worthy of opening night!
When the Curtain Falls, the Aftershow Party Begins
Normally, that would have been the end of an amazing theatre evening. But this was opening night, and the celebration was far from over. Back in the foyer, an elaborate aftershow party was waiting for us. And once again, the attention to detail was incredible:

The pink theme continued everywhere: heart-shaped pizza rolls, crispy mozzarella bites, raspberry mousse decorated with pink hearts, and even a candy bar with little pink bags and heart-shaped marshmallows.
The entire setting felt like an extension of the musical itself.
There was a wide selection of drinks at the bars, from sparkling wine and cocktails to soft drinks. A DJ kept the music going, guests were dancing, and photo spots invited everyone to capture memories of the night.
What I loved most was the atmosphere among the people:
I had come to the premiere alone and didn’t know anyone there. But that turned out to be no problem at all.
My first conversation started naturally at the candy bar, and throughout the evening I found myself meeting new people, exchanging thoughts about the musical and sharing the excitement of the night. There were familiar faces from the musical world, a lively dance floor and a rooftop terrace where guests could step away from the music for a while and enjoy a conversation.
And then, at one point, I suddenly found myself dancing in a circle alongside several members of the cast.
It was such a fun moment sharing the dance floor with performers I had watched on stage just hours earlier.
There was something wonderfully welcoming about the whole celebration. Despite arriving on my own, I never felt like I was experiencing the evening alone. The conversations, the music, the shared excitement: everything just came together.
Time seemed to fly by, and before I knew it, it was already the early hours of the morning. I didn’t get back to my hotel until around 3:30 am. I think that says quite a lot about how much I enjoyed the evening!
More Than Just a Musical
Looking back, it’s difficult to point to just one thing that made this night so special.
Of course, there was the music. The incredible performances, the clever arrangements of songs I already knew and loved, and the excitement of hearing them brought to life on stage. There was the story itself, with its humor, emotional depth and empowering messages about being yourself and making your own choices.
But there was also everything surrounding it: the glamour of opening night, the positive energy of the audience, the conversations with people I’d never met before, and the joy of celebrating together long after the final curtain call.
It was the combination of all these moments that made the evening unforgettable.
I’m so glad I decided to stay that extra night in Stuttgart. What started as a spontaneous addition to a business trip turned into one of those wonderful experiences I’ll look back on with a smile for a long time. Sometimes, the best memories really do come from saying yes to an unexpected opportunity.
Thank you to the cast, creative team, Stage Entertainment and everyone involved for such an extraordinary opening night. Stuttgart, that was amazing!
