Hollywood Meets Oz: Highlights from the Wicked Premiere in Los Angeles

It’s a rare experience when the magic of a beloved Broadway show like Wicked comes to life, but the Los Angeles premiere transported us straight into the enchanting world of Oz. And as a devoted Wicked fan living in LA right now, missing this event was not an option. There’s simply no better place to be as Hollywood celebrates the much-anticipated film adaptation.

Manifesting My Way into the Magic

Waiting Line for the Fan Zone

I arrived at noon, excitement running high as I approached the premiere location, only to see a line stretching endlessly down the street. I’d tried to RSVP for the fan zone when it first opened, but the list had filled up so quickly that I couldn’t get a spot. Seeing the long line of fans who had managed to secure a spot made my heart sink, and for a moment, I almost lost hope – how would I ever get in with so many people ahead? But then, as if by fate, I met two amazing fans with extra tickets who generously offered to help me get in. Even with a ticket, there were no guarantees, but we waited together, hoping our patience would be rewarded. My spirits were lifted by the possibility of actually making it inside.

Time seemed to drag as I watched the minutes tick by. The excitement in the crowd was contagious, though, and as we swapped stories about our favorite Wicked moments, the anticipation continued to build. Nervously, I kept glancing toward the entrance, hoping my patience would pay off. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, they began letting us in. At 3:30 pm, I was finally through, stepping into the Wicked fan zone with pure joy and excitement, surrounded by fans who were just as thrilled to be part of this unforgettable experience.

A Red Carpet to Remember

The fan zone was buzzing with excitement as people started spotting some familiar faces. Among the stars I spotted were Bill Kaulitz, Harry Daniels, Dylan Mulvaney, Loren Gray, Chris Olsen, Chrishell Stause, Hayley Kiyoko, Jake Shane, Leah Kate, Miguel Harichi, Laufey, Troye Sivan, Jenn Tran & Sasha Farber, Lena Waithe, Normani, and Sarah Paulson. Each brought their unique energy, making the event feel like a true celebration of Wicked.

A Magical Family Moment

Grande Family

Ariana Grande’s family was there to show their support, adding a personal and touching element to the evening. Her mother, Joan Grande, and brother, Frankie Grande, were all smiles, proud to see Ariana take on such an iconic role. Even her father, Edward Butera, was present, a reminder of the close-knit bond they share. It was heartwarming to witness their collective joy and pride for Ariana’s latest achievement.

Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande: The Stars of Wicked

Arriving together and completely stealing the show, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo dazzled the crowd with their on-screen chemistry and genuine admiration for each other. Ariana, stepping into the beloved role of Glinda, embodied her character in a flowing blush pink gown, exuding charm and grace. Meanwhile, Cynthia, as Elphaba, captivated with a rich green dress that was both fierce and elegant, a nod to her character’s powerful story. Known for their powerhouse vocals and emotive performances, these two are bound to create magic on the big screen, redefining the roles of Glinda and Elphaba for a new generation.

Meeting the Rest of the Cast

The premiere offered a first look at the rest of Wicked’s iconic cast members. Jeff Goldblum, who will take on the role of the Wizard, arrived with his wife Emilie by his side, looking as charismatic as ever. Marissa Bode, stepping into the unique role of Nessarose, the sister of Elphaba, brought a fresh face and energy to the event. Ethan Slater, portraying the lovable Boq, seemed thrilled to be part of this iconic production.

Paul Tazewell, the film’s costume designer, was also present, eagerly anticipating how audiences would react to the new interpretations of Wicked’s beloved looks. Michelle Yeoh, set to play Madame Morrible, exuded elegance, fitting for her character’s complex and powerful role. Sheryl Lee Ralph, as the nurturing yet firm Aunt Em, and Jonathan Bailey, who will take on the coveted role of Fiyero, rounded out the impressive cast, each bringing unique talents and excitement to their roles.

The Original Wicked Cast’s Appearance

In a truly nostalgic moment, Wicked’s original Broadway stars Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel made their entrance, to the delight of fans everywhere. Kristin, the original Glinda, and Idina, the original Elphaba, both radiated joy and pride as they welcomed the new cast. Dressed in stunning silver and black gowns, they shared in the excitement of this beloved musical’s journey to film, and their presence felt like a true passing of the torch.

A Surprise Appearance by Jennifer Lopez

Just when we thought the night couldn’t get more glamorous, Jennifer Lopez made a surprise entrance. True to her style, JLo looked effortlessly chic, bringing a touch of Hollywood glamour to the evening’s festivities. Her arrival was a delightful surprise and added an extra layer of star power to an already dazzling event, leaving fans thrilled.

A Harmonious Finale

As an artist, this premiere was more than an event – it was an inspiration. I’m thrilled to share that my new single, Defying Gravity (my violin cover of the iconic track from Wicked), will be released on November 22, accompanied by a music video capturing the song’s passion and resilience. As I stood in that fan zone, surrounded by the music, the stars, and the sheer excitement of Wicked, it felt like a perfect moment to pay homage to this story that’s moved millions.
